Spain is demonstrating its commitment to European security by integrating 206 Marines into the NATO Multinational Battlegroup deployed in Cincu, Romania, as part of deterrence operations on Europe's Eastern flank.
From May 23 to December 9, a total of 206 Spanish military personnel are part of the Multinational Battlegroup in Romania, where training operations are being carried out in four phases. The capabilities deployed include tactical reconnaissance with drones (RPAS), maintenance, logistic transport, medical support and medical evacuation.
The Spanish deployment is aimed at reinforcing deterrence and guaranteeing the security of Romania and all NATO allies. This presence is a sign of Spain's sustained commitment to the Atlantic Alliance.
Today, HM King Felipe VI and the Minister of Defense, Margarita Robles, visited the Cincu maneuvers field to greet the Spanish Marines. Robles stressed that "Spain is a serious, committed and responsible partner" and expressed her pride in the professionalism and leadership of the Armed Forces.
During the meeting, the Minister thanked the military for their efforts and underlined their key role in the defense of democratic values in the current international context.
In addition to the multinational battalion, Spain maintains deployed in the region the 'Tigru' air detachment, composed of 39 Air and Space Army airmen. It also operates an early warning and long-range radar that has already accumulated more than 20,000 hours of air surveillance, thus reinforcing NATO's collective defense.
In recent years, Spain has significantly increased its participation in deterrence and defense missions on the Eastern flank, actively fulfilling its international commitments within the Alliance.
