Eight months after the floods, the town of Cuenca dedicates its Corpus Christi celebration to the military personnel who helped during the emergency.

In an emotional ceremony held in the municipality of Mira, province of Cuenca, the Minister of Defense, Margarita Robles, has participated in the Corpus Christi festivity, dedicated this year to the members of the Armed Forces in recognition of their valuable work during the DANA that severely affected this town.

Recognition deserved for their dedication

During her speech, Robles expressed that "it is a well-deserved recognition" and thanked the neighbors for the affection shown by the military who intervened during the emergency. The Minister highlighted the professionalism, speed of action and closeness of the Armed Forces in such a difficult moment for the population.

Immediate support after the flood

The DANA, which hit the region eight months ago, caused significant material damage: the river overflowed its banks, bridges were destroyed and the underneath of houses were completely flooded, with water levels exceeding two meters.

Thanks to the intervention of the military, rescue and salvage operations were carried out, debris was removed and a footbridge was urgently built to reconnect the two parts of the village, isolated by the flood.

National pride

Robles concluded her visit by stressing that "our Armed Forces are a source of pride for their professionalism and empathy", reiterating the commitment of the Ministry of Defense to the protection of all citizens, under any circumstances.
