The Armed Forces continue to weaken the presence of residual organized armed groups (GAO-r) in the southwest of the country. In the framework of Plan Ayacucho Plus, National Army troops, in coordination with the CTI of the Attorney General's Office, captured in the last few hours alias "Simon"allegedly the fourth leader of Structure 57, and achieved the voluntary submission of alias "Gael Martinez"member of the Ricardo Velásquez mobile column.
Capture of alias "Simon", one of the most wanted in the Valley
The operation was carried out in the urban area of the municipality of Yotoco, after a process of monitoring and military intelligence with the support of human sources. Alias "Simon" was considered one of the main perpetrators of homicides, extortion and violent actions in the center of Valle del Cauca.
Among the crimes attributed to him are the murder of the presidents of the Community Action Boards of Guaqueros and Cerro Rico, as well as the kidnapping, murder and incineration of two people in Guacarí, who allegedly refused to pay extortion fees. He is also accused of attempted homicide with a firearm and grenade against a relative of a councilman in the town of La María.
During the operation, his partner, who had a valid warrant, was also arrested. Both of them were handed over to the competent authorities.
Voluntary submission in Buenaventura
In a parallel action, in the village of Llano Bajo in the district of Buenaventura, the voluntary surrender of alias "Gael Martinez" was recorded, who claimed to have belonged for three years to the Dagua commission of the Ricardo Velasquez mobile column of the Jaime Martinez Structure.
This result is the result of the Army's operational deployment and inter-institutional work to offer demobilization and reintegration routes to those who lay down their arms.
Blow to residual groups
With these actions, the National Army continues to strike at the residual structures that commit crimes in Valle del Cauca and thwarts attempts by new armed cells to expand. The authorities reiterate their commitment to continue developing offensive operations to protect the life and security of citizens in this region of the country.
