As part of the Ayacucho Plus Campaign Plan, National Army troops achieved an important victory against illegal armed structures in the Meta region, by destroying 18 anti-personnel mines and several improvised explosives in a controlled manner.
The operation was carried out by the Omega Task Force on the road that connects La Esmeralda, in the municipality of La Macarena (Meta), with San Vicente del Caguán (Caquetá). There, thanks to intelligence work, an improvised explosive device adapted in a 40-pound cylinder was located, together with four anti-personnel mines installed in an area of 200 square meters.
During the inspection, 14 anti-personnel mines ready to be planted and six pressure-activated explosive devices were also found, which were in the process of being manufactured.
The specialized explosives group of the Rapid Deployment Force No. 12 carried out the controlled destruction of all the devices. This action prevented a possible attack against civilians and members of the security forces.
Authorities attribute the installation of these devices to the Ever Castro structure of the residual armed group Bloque Jorge Suárez Briceño. The Army has reiterated its commitment to the stabilization of the territory in the departments of Meta, Caquetá and Guaviare, where it will continue to carry out offensive operations to reduce the violent actions of these groups.
