The President of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum, expressed her deep pride in the country's Armed Forces, recognizing their fundamental role in the defense of democracy and the construction of a more just and prosperous Mexico. During the ceremony for the 105th Anniversary of the Start of the Column of Legality, the federal leader highlighted that, unlike other nations, the Mexican Armed Forces do not come from the elites, but are authentically part of the people.
"We should feel very proud to have armed forces that walk with their people, defending democracy with enormous loyalty to the homeland and our institutions. We Mexicans are unique," said Sheinbaum.
The President recalled that Mexico's history is full of acts of bravery, courage and resistance, where the Mexican Army and Navy have played a crucial role in preserving independence, sovereignty and social peace. He stressed that these institutions not only safeguard national and public security, but are also present in times of emergency, provide support to the population and, in an outstanding manner, participate in the construction of large strategic works and in the operation of state-owned companies.
During her speech, Sheinbaum paid tribute to cadets, soldiers and officers from all eras, thanking them for their discipline, honor, bravery and loyalty. "Today, May 9, 2025, I pay tribute to the cadets of before and now, to the soldiers and officers who have served Mexico with honor. Thank you for your dedication, courage and unwavering loyalty," he said with emotion.
The president also gave special thanks to the heads of the Secretariat of National Defense (SEDENA), General Ricardo Trevilla Trejo, and of the Secretariat of the Navy (SEMAR), Admiral Pedro Morales Ángeles, for their commitment and support in the defense of sovereignty and the construction of peace.
"Thank you General Trevilla, thank you Admiral Morales for your dedication. Together, government, armed forces and the people of Mexico, we are building a peaceful and prosperous country for present and future generations. Every step we take on the road to justice is a step towards the best possible Mexico," he concluded.
The ceremony was attended by high-ranking Mexican government officials, including the Secretary of the Interior, Rosa Icela Rodríguez; the Attorney General of the Republic, Alejandro Gertz Manero; the President of the Senate, Gerardo Fernández Noroña; the Secretary of Foreign Affairs, Juan Ramón de la Fuente; the head of the Secretariat for Women, Citlali Hernández; and the Secretary of Public Education, Mario Delgado, among other officials.
With this emotional act, the President reaffirmed her commitment to work hand in hand with the Armed Forces and the people of Mexico to strengthen the peace, security and well-being of the nation.
