In a joint operation, the National Army and the CTI located an illegal warehouse with weapons and explosive material in the Don Jaca bridge sector, in Santa Marta. The discovery was made in the framework of the special security deployment for the commemoration of July 20.
Thanks to intelligence work, commandos of the Gaula Militar Magdalena Group, belonging to the Second Brigade, and officers of the Technical Investigation Corps (CTI) were able to detect a cove buried 60 centimeters deep. The operation was carried out in the area of the Don Jaca bridge, south of the city.
The warehouse contained a worrying arsenal:
The seizure of this material represents a strategic advance in the fight against illegal armed groups, by deactivating a potential threat to the civilian population and dismantling part of the operational capacity of criminal organizations.
Authorities claim that this result not only prevents possible attacks, but also significantly weakens the logistics of those who generate violence in the region.
The operation was carried out as part of the special security scheme activated on the occasion of the Independence Day celebrations, in a context where military forces have intensified their presence in urban and rural areas.
The First Division of the National Army reiterated its commitment to the safety of the inhabitants and visitors of Santa Marta. "We continue working to generate safe spaces that provide welfare and confidence to citizens," said the institution.
