Ecuador - Alleged criminal group member, alias "La Máxima" captured in Esmeraldas

The Armed Forces of Ecuador, in coordination with the National Police, apprehended a citizen identified as "La Máxima", an alleged member of the criminal organization "Gánster". The operation was carried out in the Santa Martha 2 sector, in the Esmeraldas canton, as part of the security actions in the northern border of the country.

Military operation in the coastal zone

The Security Block deployed personnel and means of the Marine Infantry Battalion No. 11 "San Lorenzo" and Battalion No. 12 "Esmeraldas", who carried out an intervention within the framework of an internal military operation. During the action, alias "La Máxima" was found carrying weapons and ammunition and was immediately handed over to the judicial authorities.

Progress in the fight against organized crime

Alias "La Máxima" was wanted by the National Police and his capture represents a blow to the criminal structure operating clandestinely in the region. This result is part of the State's efforts to regain territorial control and guarantee security in vulnerable areas of the country.
