In the framework of security operations and support to other government institutions, the Ecuadorian Army executed a military operation in the sector Juan ColombiaPuebloviejo, canton of Puebloviejo, province of Los Rioswhich culminated in the capture of two individuals linked to the organized armed group "La Mafia"..
The detainees, identified as M. Beam y L. Monserratewere considered high value objectivesfor his alleged participation in crimes such as extortion, trafficking of controlled substances, robberies, kidnappings and hired assassinations.
According to official reports, the subjects were demanding payments of up to $15,000 to merchants and citizensusing threats and violence to intimidate the population. They also acted as logistical operators of the criminal group, in charge of the storage and distribution of drugs.
