Ecuadorian Army seizes weapons and ammunition after operation in Los Rios
Two alleged members of "La Mafia" captured in Puebloviejo; rifles, pistols, ammunition and motorcycles seized
Joint operation against organized crime
In the framework of security operations and support to other government institutions, the Ecuadorian Army executed a military operation in the sector Juan ColombiaPuebloviejo, canton of Puebloviejo, province of Los Rioswhich culminated in the capture of two individuals linked to the organized armed group "La Mafia"..
The detainees, identified as M. Beam y L. Monserratewere considered high value objectivesfor his alleged participation in crimes such as extortion, trafficking of controlled substances, robberies, kidnappings and hired assassinations.
Extortion and violence in the area
According to official reports, the subjects were demanding payments of up to $15,000 to merchants and citizensusing threats and violence to intimidate the population. They also acted as logistical operators of the criminal group, in charge of the storage and distribution of drugs.
During the raid, the Armed Forces were able to obtain the following information seizure of a large arsenalconsisting of:
- 1 gun with its respective feeder
- 1 industrially manufactured gun with feeder
- 1 revolver
- 2 pouches
- 83 ammunition
- 5 mobile devices
- 2 motorcycles used in their criminal operations
Handing over of evidence and legal proceedings
After the intervention, the two individuals were handed over to the competent authorities.along with the weapons, vehicles and devices seized. The Ecuadorian Army reiterated its commitment to actively collaborate with the judicial entities for the dismantling of organized crime in the country.
This new blow to the criminal structures on the Ecuadorian coast reflects the reinforced military presence in areas with a high incidence of crime, within the framework of the National Security Plan.
