Ecuadorian military aircraft suffers incident at Cotopaxi airport, Latacunga

An aircraft of the Ecuadorian Air Force (FAE) suffered a mishap this Monday morning, May 13, 2025, while operating on the runway of the Cotopaxi airportlocated in the center of the country.

According to local media and specialized reports, this is a Boeing C-130 Herculesa tactical transport aircraft, which was donated by the U.S. Government in March 2024. The incident occurred when the aircraft would have brake system failureThis caused it to end up moving out of the taxiway.

No injuries reported

Following the incident, emergency crews were immediately deployed to the area to provide assistance to the crew. Fortunately, no injuries were reported among military personnel on board.

The Ecuadorian Air Force activated security protocols and is currently carrying out technical work for the removal of the aircraft and damage assessment.

A strategic aircraft for the country

The aviation expert Nicolás Larenas confirmed that this unit is the the only one of its kind in Ecuador. Since its incorporation to the national air fleet, the C-130 has been used for security operations, logistical transport and humanitarian assistance.

The aircraft is capable of mobilizing military personnel, heavy cargo and supplies in emergency situations, so its incorporation was considered a significant advance in the modernization of the FAE's operational capabilities.
