The 500-pound explosive device was destroyed in a joint operation led by the 8° Reggimento Guastatori Paracadutisti "Folgore" and divers of COMSUBIN, under coordination of the Prefecture of Venice.

High-risk operation ensures safety in industrial and port zone

A World War II aircraft bomb, with a high explosive power and weighing 500 pounds (227 kilograms), was located during excavations in a construction site at the Marghera petrochemical complex in the province of Venice.

The device was neutralized in a joint operation carried out by the bomb squad of the 8th Reggimento Guastatori Paracadutisti "Folgore" of the Italian Army and divers of the Underwater Operational Group (GOS) of the Subacquei e Incursori Command (COMSUBIN) of the Military Navy, under the coordination of the Prefecture of Venice.

After being secured by Army specialists, the explosive was transported offshore by COMSUBIN divers, where it was destroyed in a controlled manner. The operation lasted approximately six hours, with the objective of completely reestablishing security in the port area and minimizing any impact on commercial and tourist traffic and the marine ecosystem.

Civil defense and inter-institutional coordination at the service of the public

This complex intervention represents a new example of the Italian Armed Forces' ability to act effectively in civil protection missions, ensuring the safety of the population and the operability of the country's key infrastructures.

This action brings to 122 the number of interventions carried out by the bomb squad of the "Folgore" regiment since the beginning of the year in the provinces under its responsibility, with a total of 250 explosive devices located and destroyed during this period.
