Military offensive against drug trafficking in Quindío leaves one capture and seizure of marijuana

Military operations in the coffee-growing region of the Eje Cafetero continue to produce convincing results. Troops of the Eighth Brigade of the National Army seized 9 kilograms of marijuana and captured a person for the alleged crime of drug trafficking, as part of their offensive against illicit economies in the department of Quindío.

Intervention on La Línea road

During this week, soldiers from the High Mountain Battalion No. 5The police, attached to the Eighth Brigade, carried out a control operation at a permanent post located on the La Línea road. During these activities, and with the support of a canine binomial, a suspicious suitcase was detected in the hold of an interdepartmental bus traveling from Armenia to Bogota.

Upon inspection, the following were found 15 packages with characteristics similar to marijuanawhich were verified by the authorities and subsequently seized.

Capture in Montenegro

In a parallel operation, troops from the Combat Engineer Battalion No. 8in support of the Special Operations Group of the National Police, achieved the capture in flagrante delicto of alias "Paraco". in the municipality of Montenegro. The subject was found to be carrying a black bag containing 110 plastic bags with marijuanaready to be marketed.

The captured person was placed at the disposal of the competent authority for the respective judicial process.

Cumulative results in 2025

During the year 2025, the Eighth Brigade has carried out a sustained effort against drug trafficking, achieving:

  • More of 1 ton of cocaine hydrochloride seized
  • Half a ton of marijuana seized
  • 117 captures for drug-related offenses
