In an internal control operation, the Armed Forces of Ecuador identified and dismantled two clandestine warehouses in the province of Esmeraldas, allegedly used for illicit activities.
The intervention was carried out by the Joint Task Force Esmeraldas and personnel from the San Lorenzo Marine Infantry Battalion, in the Rioverde canton, Bocana de Lagarto sector. During the operation, the military located two hidden warehouses.
In the first warehouse, 18 tanks with a capacity of 55 gallons each, presumably filled with gasoline, were found. In the second, parts and pieces of outboard motors, usually used in illegal maritime activities, were found.
All the seized material was placed in a chain of custody and handed over to the corresponding judicial authorities, who will continue with the investigations to determine responsibilities.
With this action, the Armed Forces of Ecuador reaffirm their commitment to the country's security and the fight against smuggling, reinforcing their presence at strategic points along the northern border.
