
Admiral Francisco Cubides reinforces military cooperation between Colombia and the Atlantic Alliance in a series of strategic meetings
Brussels, May 12, 2025 - The Chief of the Joint Chiefs of Staff of the Colombian Military Forces, Admiral Francisco Hernando Cubides Granadoswas officially received at the NATO headquarters in Brussels by the Chairman of NATO's Military Committee (CMC), Admiral Giuseppe Cavo Dragone.
During his visit, Admiral Cubides participated in the high-level meetings with Alliance military authoritiesThe current and future lines of action of the company were discussed. cooperation between Colombia and NATOreaffirming the South American country's status as one of the world's most important strategic global partner.
Admiral Cubides presented to the NATO military representatives the pillars of the Colombia's national security strategythe country's role in the fight against the illicit traffickingin particular through the Operation ORIONThe Colombian government is coordinating a multilateral campaign to combat drug trafficking, with the participation of NATO allies and partners.
In this regard, Admiral Cavo Dragone underscored the colombia's experience in maritime security and the fight against organized crimeas well as its close linkage to the agenda of the counterterrorism of the Alliance.
Admiral Cubides also met with the director general of NATO's International Military Staff, Lieutenant General Janusz Adamczakwho stressed the importance of maintaining strong ties with like-minded nations such as ColombiaThe company is committed to a rules-based international order.
Subsequently, the admiral was informed by the Maj. Gen. Dacian-Tiberiu SerbanDirector of NATO's Cooperative Security Division, on the development of the Individualized Partnership Program (ITPP). The two sides discussed the practical elements of bilateral military cooperation, aimed at facilitating the interoperability between Colombia and NATO.
With the current ITPP cycle coming to an end and negotiations for the next cycle already underway, both sides reaffirmed their commitment to continue strengthening ties in key areas such as cybersecurity, counter-terrorism, combating corruption and maritime security.
Cooperation between Colombia and NATO started in 2015and was consolidated with the signing of the first ITPP in 2021Colombia being the first partner country to adopt this mechanismThis has allowed for a more structured and effective collaboration.
