
Major General of the Peruvian Army (r) Walter Enrique Astudillo Chávez was ratified as Minister of Defense in an official ceremony presided by President Dina Boluarte at the Government Palace, within the framework of the restructuring of the Ministerial Cabinet led by the new Prime Minister Eduardo Melchor Arana Ysa.
The continuity of General Astudillo Chávez at the head of the Ministry of Defense reaffirms the Government's commitment to maintain stability in matters of national security and defense. This renewal consolidates his leadership and commitment in leading the Peruvian Armed Forces, following his initial appointment through Supreme Resolution N° 021-2024-PCM.
With this ratification, Minister Astudillo Chávez will continue to promote policies aimed at strengthening social peace, respect for the rule of law and active cooperation with the country's military institutions. His administration is focused on safeguarding national sovereignty and consolidating a modern and efficient defense.
With extensive military experience, General Astudillo has held key positions within the Armed Forces. He has served as director of the Center for Advanced National Studies (CAEN-EPG), as well as director of Education and Doctrine of the Ministry of Defense. He has also been commander of COEDE, military advisor to the United Nations and director of the Chorrillos Military School, among other high responsibility positions.
