The Minister of Defense, Margarita Robles, visited the military residence in Castellón, where more than a thousand relatives of Ukrainian soldiers have found rest and emotional support since 2024. This program, promoted by the Spanish Government, offers a safe and humanitarian space to those suffering the ravages of the conflict in their country.

A refuge away from conflict

During her speech, the minister stressed that more than 1,000 family members have already passed through this residence, where they stay for two weeks in an environment far from the conflict. "Here they are far from the noise of bombs and the horror of a cruel war, which has only one culprit: Putin," Robles declared.

In this regard, he stressed that the program will continue to be active "until the end of the war," reaffirming Spain's commitment to Ukraine beyond military support. "The Ukrainian people are giving us a lesson in life, struggle and resilience," he added.

Emotional support and activities for children

Families receive not only lodging, but also emotional support and an agenda of cultural and children's activities. The intention is to offer moments of peace and normality in the midst of the pain caused by the armed conflict.

The minister thanked the staff of the military residence for their dedication and commitment, noting that they "make the difficult easy" and that their work is essential for the aid to be effective and humane.

Spain's commitment to peace and solidarity

Robles, accompanied by the Undersecretary of Defense, Adoración Mateos; the Secretary General of Defense Policy, Admiral Juan Francisco Martínez Núñez; and the Government Subdelegate in Castellón, Antonia García Valls, affirmed that Spain will maintain this type of action "as long as necessary".

"We are witnesses to the smiles of the children. Hopefully this residence will not have to be used for this purpose, but as long as there is no just and lasting peace, here it will be at their disposal," he concluded.
