The Minister of Defense, Margarita Robles, has presented to the Defense Committee of the Congress the ambitious Security and Defense Plan, a strategic investment of 10,471 million euros that raises the investment to 2.1% of the GDP and consolidates Spain's role as a reliable partner of NATO.

During her speech, Robles stressed that this plan does not imply an arms escalation, but a firm commitment to strengthening national capabilities, modernizing the Armed Forces and boosting the Spanish economy. More than 6,000 million will be earmarked for investments that will directly benefit some 300 companies in the national territory, promoting the opening of new factories and highly qualified jobs.

The Minister reiterated Spain's firm commitment to Ukraine and to international peace missions, highlighting in particular the work of Lieutenant General Aroldo Lázaro at the head of the UNIFIL operation in Lebanon, where the Spanish military is recognized by the local population.

Robles closed her speech by recalling that defense policy is a State policy: "No one can question Spain's commitment to peace and global security, values that are demonstrated with deeds and with the active presence of our troops in international scenarios".
