
The Minister of Defense, Margarita Robles, presided over the presentation of the V National Journalism Award 'José Ortega Munilla' at the Naval Command of Malaga, an event that has strengthened the ties between the Armed Forces and the citizens of Malaga. The ceremony has also served to pay tribute to the shared values between journalism and the Legion, an institution very present in the cultural and social life of the city.
The awards ceremony took place in the Naval Command of Malaga, in an environment full of symbolism due to the close relationship between the city and the Legion. The Minister has highlighted this link, especially visible during Holy Week with the traditional participation of the Tercio in the transfer of the Cristo de la Buena Muerte (Christ of the Good Death).
During her speech, Margarita Robles stressed that the Legion and journalism share pillars such as honor, truth and discipline. These values, she pointed out, are fundamental for the members of the Armed Forces, who perform their work both in national territory and in international missions under NATO, the European Union and the UN.
The jury has awarded the V National Journalism Prize 'José Ortega Munilla' ex aequo to María Fidalgo and Francisco Chirino, for their works. The Legion's Deed in the Blockhouse of Death: Ferrer-Dalmau and the Volunteers to Die y Legionnaire's Eyesrespectively. In addition, three runners-up prizes were awarded to Juan Díaz, Emilio Domínguez and Francisco Iván Gómez.
The Special 'Ad Honorem' Award went to Pedro Luis Gómez Carmona, a journalist recognized for his career and his work in disseminating military values, who received the distinction from the hands of Minister Robles.
The ceremony was also attended by the Chief of Staff of the Army, Army General Amador Enseñat, the rector of the University of Malaga, Teodomiro Lopez Navarrete, and the mayor of Malaga, Francisco de la Torre, along with other civilian and military authorities.
The contest, named after the journalist and academic José Ortega y Munilla -father of the philosopher Ortega y Gasset-, seeks to promote the recognition of the history and culture of defense through journalism.
