A joint operation led to the discovery of more than 7,000 kilos of potassium permanganate, a key substance in the production of cocaine hydrochloride, significantly affecting the drug trafficking chain in the south of the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Troops from the Command Against Drug Trafficking and Transnational Threats (CONAT), in coordination with the Colombian Aerospace Force, the Colombian Navy and the National Police, carried out an interdiction operation in the Comuna Dos district of the municipality of Puerto As\u00eds, Putumayo. During the military action, 7,693 kilos of potassium permanganate, an element used in the purification stage of the alkaloid, were found.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In addition, 1,460 kilos of solid inputs and 400 gallons of liquids used in the processing of cocaine were found. Two artisanal structures used for the processing of these inputs were also destroyed in a controlled manner at the site.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This result represents a significant loss to the illicit economies of the organized armed groups, valued at approximately 550 million Colombian pesos, equivalent to more than US$130,000.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The continued use of rustic laboratories for the manufacture of alkaloids has a serious environmental impact, especially in terms of the contamination of water sources and the deterioration of local ecosystems due to the use of highly toxic chemicals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The National Army reaffirms its commitment to neutralize drug trafficking and its logistical structures, as well as to protect the environment. Military operations will continue throughout the national territory, with the objective of weakening the illicit finances of illegal armed groups and safeguarding the country's natural resources.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
