The Navy celebrates the anniversary of a proud, brave and essential force for the fluvial, land and maritime defense of the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
On the occasion of the 205th anniversary of its creation, the General Command of the Military Forces and the Colombian Navy pay tribute to the Marine Corps, highlighting its bravery, professionalism and tireless service throughout more than two centuries of military history.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The date recalls the Baptism of Fire<\/strong> occurred on June 11, 1820<\/strong>when a group of 100 patriots, led by General Mariano Montilla and Admiral Jos\u00e9 Prudencio Padilla, disembarked in Sabanilla (Puerto Colombia, Atl\u00e1ntico) and defeated the Spanish troops at the mouths of the Magdalena River. The following day, they took Barranquilla and Soledad, establishing a key point for patriot operations in the Caribbean.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The Marine Corps has been, since then, a fundamental force for the country's security, standing out for its amphibious capabilities, its strategic role in river and coastal areas, and its constant participation in joint operations throughout the national territory.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Under the slogans \"Few, good and proud<\/strong>\" y \"The will overcomes all<\/strong>\"Its members have shown their sacrifice and dedication to the service of Colombia, strengthening the fabric of sovereignty and national defense.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The Colombian Navy reaffirms its commitment to the training of new generations of Marines, oriented to the protection of maritime interests, the safety of the population and the defense of the blue of the flag.
