Located in the emblematic Alc\u00e1zar of Segovia, this archive, declared National in 1998, holds millions of key documents for the country's historical memory.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The General Military Archive of Segovia, considered the oldest of its kind in Spain, was visited this Tuesday by the Minister of Defense, Margarita Robles, who toured several of its rooms together with the Undersecretary of Defense, recognizing the important work of documentary conservation that is carried out there.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Founded in 1898 and declared National Archive in 1998, this center houses more than 83,000 files and boxes with approximately five million documents, distributed in about 17,000 linear meters of shelves. A huge amount of material that makes this archive a reference for historians, researchers and students from all over Spain.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Minister highlighted the work of the personnel responsible for the custody and cataloguing of this documentary heritage, underlining their contribution to the preservation of the national historical memory. Among the collections preserved are service sheets, personal files, correspondence, plans and maps.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The archive has been recognized with distinctions such as the Gold Medal of the city of Segovia and the Culture Award of the Provincial Council, which is evidence of its cultural and academic relevance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Currently, 100% of the Alcazar space is occupied, while the documentation in the annexed headquarters of the Casa de la Qu\u00edmica already reaches 91% of occupation, reflecting the need for new solutions to continue with the work of conservation and access to these funds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
One of the main challenges of the Military Archive of Segovia is to improve accessibility and documentary description. To this end, the implementation of an employment and training program is planned for students of the History and Humanities degree, which will allow 10 students and 2 professors to participate in a training and practical experience aimed at modernizing the cataloging system.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
