The Minister of Defense, Margarita Robles, has awarded the Grand Cross of Military Merit with blue badge to Lieutenant General Aroldo L\u00e1zaro, in recognition of his work at the head of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL), where he led nearly 10,000 blue helmets for more than three years. As of September, he will assume command of the Eurocorps.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
During the ceremony, Robles highlighted that General L\u00e1zaro \"is the best representation of what a Spanish soldier is\", underlining his role in complex circumstances and his impeccable representation of Spain before the international community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The minister reaffirmed Spain's commitment to the United Nations and peace missions, as well as the constant involvement of the Spanish Army in the defense of global stability.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Upon receiving the award, L\u00e1zaro expressed his gratitude and emotion, acknowledging that this mission \"has been one of the most challenging\" of his career. He thanked the support received from Spain, especially in the most delicate moments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He also highlighted the \"enriching period of growth\" he experienced in Lebanon, working with people of different nationalities and facing a complex environment with dignity and professionalism.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Lieutenant General Lazaro has a solid track record in peacekeeping operations. In addition to his multiple deployments to Lebanon, he participated in missions in Bosnia and Herzegovina under UN, NATO and EU mandate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He has held key positions at the High Readiness Multinational Land Headquarters in Valencia and at the Mechanized Brigade 'Guzm\u00e1n el Bueno'. His deep knowledge of Lebanon and experience in international environments have been key to his outstanding work in UNIFIL.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
