The gala, held at the Army War and Leadership School, coincided with the 11th anniversary of the proclamation of the monarch.
On Thursday, June 19, the 60th Army Awards Gala was held, presided over by His Majesty King Felipe VI. The ceremony took place at the Army War and Leadership School in Madrid, and was attended by the Minister of Defense, Margarita Robles, the JEME, Army General Amador Enseñat y Berea, and various civilian and military authorities.
The Army Awards, established in 1945 and reformulated in its current format in 1963, are one of the longest-running cultural awards in Spain. Its aim is to promote artistic, literary and educational creation around the life and values of the Army, as well as its dissemination among civil society.
This year's edition focused on the event "From Pavia to Breda (1525-1625)", in commemoration of the V Centenary of the Battle of Pavia and the IV Centenary of the Surrender of Breda, two key episodes in the history of the Spanish Tercios.
The winners were selected in multiple categories such as painting, military miniatures, photography, video, journalism and research. Schools were also awarded for their pedagogical work on military history.
In this edition, a Special Distinction was awarded to the United States Army, on the occasion of its 250th anniversary, for its long historical link with Spain since its origin as the Continental Army.
The presence of the King at this gala takes on a special symbolism as it coincides with the XI anniversary of his proclamation. A gesture that reaffirms the Crown's commitment to the Armed Forces and the recognition of their role in history, culture and national defense.
