As part of the strengthening of bilateral relations in defense and security matters, Honduran military authorities received today the Commander of the National Guard of Puerto Rico, Major General Miguel Méndez, during an official visit at the headquarters of the Joint Chiefs of Staff of the Honduran Armed Forces. The meeting reaffirms the commitment of both nations in the framework of the "Partner State" cooperation program, focused on the exchange of knowledge and strategic experiences.
The U.S. delegation was received by the Secretary of State in the Office of National Defense, Attorney Rixi Moncada, and Major General Roosevelt Hernández, who offered a protocol welcome and reaffirmed the will to continue developing joint initiatives with the United States, especially through its military component in Puerto Rico.
The visit is part of an ongoing process of bilateral cooperation. It should be recalled that in April of this year, Minister Moncada and General Hernández made an official visit to Puerto Rico, where they held key meetings with security and defense authorities. The current visit of Major General Méndez represents a diplomatic response that seeks to further strengthen existing institutional ties.
During the meeting, various issues of common interest were discussed, including national security, natural disaster preparedness, environmental defense and the protection of territorial sovereignty. These areas of cooperation are in line with the objectives of the "Partner State" program, promoted by the U.S. Department of Defense, which seeks to strengthen interoperability between allied countries.
The work agenda included the analysis of best practices, as well as the projection of future joint training between units of the Armed Forces of Honduras and the National Guard of Puerto Rico, with emphasis on humanitarian response and operations in complex scenarios.
Both Honduras and the United States have expressed their intention to maintain a solid alliance based on mutual respect and technical cooperation. The Honduran government, through the Ministry of National Defense and the Armed Forces, stressed the importance of this type of meeting for strengthening hemispheric security, the professionalization of human resources and regional integration in the face of common threats.
This high-level visit not only reaffirms the mutual support between the two nations, but also lays the groundwork for increasingly effective collaboration for the benefit of peace, sustainable development and stability in the region.
