The Minister of Defense, Walter Astudillo Chávezannounced that Peru has initiated a process of intelligent and strategic modernization of its Armed Forces, focused on technological self-sufficiency and the strengthening of national industry. This statement was made within the framework of the presidential speech for Fiestas PatriasThe country is making a "qualitative leap" in defense matters.
For more than a decade, the operational capacity of the Armed Forces was affected by the lack of investment. Now, with a vision for the future, the government seeks to promote local productive development and technological innovation.
According to projections by the Ministry of Defense, this policy will generate over 12 thousand jobs by 2040 and will allow the participation of more than 1,000 domestic companies. The president Dina Boluarte announced that the Executive Branch will present to Congress a bill to promote the defense industryThe project will be implemented in the first half of the year, consolidating the regulatory framework of this ambitious plan.
Minister Astudillo affirmed that "it is no longer just about buying, it is about to produce in the countrycreating synergies with local companies". Among the examples he cited were the SIMAwhich is currently building 23 vesselsand to the FAMEwhich has assembled more than 10 thousand rifles and advances in the manufacture of special vehicles.
Also highlighted was the work of the SEMAN of the Peruvian Air Forcewhich already produces aeronautical parts and components, aiming for a operational autonomy increasingly consolidated.
The government emphasized that this modernization should not be seen as an expense, but rather as a strategic investment that boosts the national economy and strengthens the country's sovereignty.
